Vleisch

What is Vleisch?

Cultivated meat is not meant for vegetarians or vegans, emphasize the Dutch scientists, but for people who think they can not do without meat. Because basically man can live on plants alone. Because many people who have previously eaten meat miss its taste and texture, there are already a number of herbal alternatives, mostly called "meat". They are made from wheat gluten (seitan), soybeans (tofu, soybean, tempeh), the fermented pericarp Fusarium venenatum (Quorn), other mushrooms, jackfruit, lupins, rice, peas, chickpeas, pecans or algae.

Vleisch - alternatives of the future

Algaethat are eaten in East Asia, are even interesting for the food production of the future. Although they have a low quantitative nutritional value, but contain many minerals and vitamins and can be easily harvest or breed. However, when they grow in the sea for a long time, they contain too much iodine.

mushrooms are also promising because they do not need any land to grow and can feed on waste such as coffee sud.

Insects are repeatedly called as an alternative source of protein.

Peter Arras of AKT Institute for Mitweltethik propagates food using cellulosic biofermenters (straw, reeds, etc.), as it were in an artificial ruminant stomach. In general, what we now consider as waste is an interesting source for the energy and food production of the future. Cores, stalks, trays and production-related sections often contain valuable substances that could be used directly if treated properly instead of being used as fertilizer or disposed of.

One should also not forget that many foods are unnecessarily thrown away. In the European Union, this is an average of 179 kilograms per year per person. 42 percent of this goes to private households, 39 percent to garbage producers, 14 to gastronomy and five percent to retailers.
