Drift brings pesticides into the bedroom

The one from the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) "Saving Bees and Farmers" The Europe-wide study "Pesticides in the bedroom - random sample study of house deaf from 21 EU countries" shows that the interiors of apartments that border on agricultural areas are contaminated with a large number of pesticides.

The investigation was carried out using house dust samples from the bedrooms of 21 households in 21 EU countries. All samples taken were contaminated with pesticides. The average value was 8 and the maximum value was 23 pesticide active ingredients per sample. Every fourth sample contained pesticides classified as possibly carcinogenic by the European Chemicals Agency EChA. Active ingredients suspected of damaging human reproduction were found in 80 percent of the bedroom samples.

The study authors Martin Dermine and Helmut Burtscher-Schaden (GLOBAL 2000): “For people to be exposed to cocktails of pesticides in their homes is unacceptable. The chemical-intensive agriculture, which is responsible for this, must no longer be subsidized in the EU! Instead, these funds should flow into the promotion and further development of agroecological practices as alternatives to the use of pesticides, as the EU Commission has already outlined in the European Green Deal.”
