What is it about?
The EU Commission would like to re-regulate the approval of plants to which new genetic engineering methods such as the CRISPR/Cas genetic scissors have been used. Accordingly, over 90% of these plants should no longer be tested for risks or labeled on food packaging because, in the Commission's opinion, they are similar to naturally grown plants. At the same time, it should still be possible to register patents for new genetically engineered plants.
