Study: Waste separation more widespread than waste prevention

According to a German study, the connections between one's own individual behavior and ecological problems are perceived to varying degrees - less, according to the study, in “upscale” milieus. In “precarious milieus”, the will to avoid waste is definitely identifiable, but implementation is often slowed down by imposed limits (for example a lack of organic bins on the property).

In general, it was found that waste separation is more common than waste prevention. The authors of the study see waste separation as a “door opener” for the (necessary) communication about waste avoidance.
