Write for Rights 2022: Russia – Aleksandra Skochilenko
Aleksandra Skochilenko is a songwriter and artist from St. Petersburg. She is accused of replacing price tags in local supermarkets with anti-war information, including about those killed during the shelling of the Mariupol Drama Theater in Ukraine. On 11 April, police searched Aleksandra Skochilenko's home, and they arrested and interrogated her until 3am the next morning.
Aleksandra Skochilenko is a songwriter and artist from St. Petersburg. She is accused of replacing price tags in local supermarkets with anti-war information, including about those killed during the shelling of Ukraine's Mariupol Drama Theater. On April 11, the police searched Aleksandra Skochilenko's home, arrested her and interrogated her until 3 a.m. the next morning. On April 13, the Vasileostrovsky District Court placed her in pre-trial detention until June 1, 2022 (the detention period is expected to be extended).
Aleksandra is accused of "publicly disseminating false information about the deployment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the exercise of their powers by state bodies of the Russian Federation" under the recently added Article 207.3(2) of the Criminal Code. If convicted, she faces 5 to 10 years in prison.
