Out with the electrosmog from the bedroom

A new plan for more health - at least in the bedroom: Electrosmog is to be almost completely banished from the important rest area.

Electrosmog bedroom

You are now everywhere, whether you like it or not: electrical, magnetic and electromagnetic fields that affect us every day. Mobile phones and Wi-Fi have long since conquered our homes, with the next wave coming soon. With Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home, we will soon connect countless other devices to the Internet. After all, we have been waiting for this for a long time: in the future, the washing machine and the co are also to be controlled from the office via apps on the mobile phone. The result: The electric smog in the apartments will continue to increase, even in the bedrooms. The consequences: After all, every fourth adult suffers, according to the Robert Koch Institute today already sleep disorders and more than one in ten feels often or permanently, even after sleeping not recovered.

Cell phone & electrosmog
Currently, the mobile penetration rate in Austria is 156 percent. This means that on average every Austrian has 1,5 SIM cards. In a survey conducted by a German health insurance company, around four out of ten respondents (38 percent) stated that they were looking at their smartphone immediately before and after sleep. Among the 30-year-olds, according to the study, even seven out of ten (70 percent).
The discussion of whether mobile phone radiation is harmful to health, lasts as long as there are the smart devices. As with the mobile phone masts, there are studies with different statements. An indication that this is very well, shows the meanwhile quite high importance of the information of the SAR value of a mobile phone. SAR stands for "specific absorption rate". It describes the rate of energy used to absorb ("absorb") electromagnetic fields from biological tissue. Therefore, it is measured in units of watts per kilogram. The lower the SAR value, the lower the radiation absorption and the associated heating of the tissue. How strong your phone shines and which phones have low SAR values, you can look here: www.inside-handy.de/handy-bestenliste/sar-wert-strahlung.

Mobile phone and WLAN are essential factors: More than a third (38 percent) uses the phone as an alarm clock, a German survey revealed - and thus has his device in full function next to him in the bedroom. And even the vast majority of Internet routers do not know a nocturnal break. They tirelessly keep us online - even though we are already sleeping. And, even more absurdly: Some users use apps to monitor and analyze their sleep from the phone.

Right now this will finally end up here. We make the bedroom free of electrosmog again. But, is that still possible today? The most comprehensive measure would be the universal off-switch, which cuts off the power to all devices in the household. At the latest with the daily adjustment of the clocks with us four devices shows that this is however not a practicable option. Especially since today numerous functions such as living space ventilation and co require a nightly power supply. With three measures, however, everyone still manages the extensive spell of electrosmog.

No electrical appliances in the bedroom

In the bedroom any kind of electrical appliances is inappropriate. As comfortable as the television is in bed, all devices connected to the power supply cause electrosmog. So get out of it.

The ideal alarm clock

The cell phone must now also remain outside or at least be switched off completely. Because: Even in flight mode, there is residual radiation. Basically no problem, you might think at first, you just need an alternative alarm clock. However, anyone who leads a less classic professional life, which comes up with different working hours, home office and the like under the term work-life balance, must find out when looking for an alarm clock: We have been completely forgotten about us - health-conscious & flexible. Since we commute to the federal capital three times a week and work from home twice a week, we want programmable wake-up times based on the day of the week. In fact, it is hard to find a suitable alarm clock that, firstly, does not radio and, secondly, can save several different alarm times on different days. We did find some alternatives - see info box.
In any case, the ideal alarm clock for avoiding electrosmog and mobile phone radiation is battery-powered and does not set up any radio or Internet connections.

Sleep for wireless router

In addition to the cell phone, WLAN is the second major factor in the household. In most cases, the corresponding router runs without a break to allow all devices to access the Internet. This can usually be easily changed, depending on the complexity of the router software. In the meantime, each device has a time switch that thwarts the WLAN for a regular night's sleep.

Attention blue light

By the way: The use of the phone just before sleep can counteract the relaxation. The reason: blue light from screens causes the melatonin level to drop. The hormone makes us tired in the dark. But if the production is inhibited, those affected can fall asleep worse. A so-called blue light filter can be helpful.

More tips:
Basically: Avoid general electrical appliances in the bedroom. Also a TV, clock radio or reading lights are taboo.
Alternative alarm clock
Renkforce A600: Battery operated alarm clock with many alarms and functions.
Renkforce A440 and Renkforce A480: A small box whose wake up times are programmable via mobile phone but no longer connect.
Neverlate alarm clock: A digital, battery-powered alarm clock with extensive features.
Blue light filter, Bright light with lots of blue as on the phone shortly before falling asleep reduces the recovery effect. So if you really need to check your messages in bed again, you should use special blue filter functions. A mode that increases the proportion of red and thus promotes night sleep.
