On today's Fire Drill Friday the artist, activist and OBEY founder Shepard Fairey and the climate fighter Charlie Jiang from @Greenpeace USA meet! Learn about the important role art plays in activism, and get a special look at Fairey's brand new portrait of President Joe Biden. We will also learn more about what the portrait represents - the critical need for President Biden to continue to act on the climate during his first 100 days in office.

Shepard Fairey was born in Charleston, South Carolina and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1989 he created the sticker “Andre the giant has a farce”, which turned into the OBEY GIANT art campaign. The images have changed the way people see art and the urban landscape. After more than 30 years, his work has become a recognized work of art, including the 2008 portrait "Hope" by Barack Obama, which can be found in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Fairey's stickers, guerrilla street art presence, and public murals are in the permanent collections of the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Museum of Fine Arts Boston, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonians National Portrait Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and many others. Charlie Jiang is a climate fighter fighting for a Green New Deal that will do justice to the communities and workers hardest hit by the climate crisis and fossil fuel extraction. He has a background in clean energy technology and organization with youth climate movements. Originally from Chicago, he currently resides in Piscataway countries in Washington, DC.
