A dream not fulfilled….

"I have a dream ...". Those were the famous words from Martin Luther King's speech on August 28.08.1963, 50. In his speech, he talks about his dream of an America where all people are equal. Back then, over XNUMX years ago, a man tried to show humankind that we are all the same and have the same values. At that time he tried to explain the social problems and show people that a better future awaits us if we all stick together. But has his dream come true? We now live in a time when all people are equal. Are human rights taken for granted today?

While looking for information about human rights on the Internet, I noticed one thing, and that is that human rights are mostly set in the news in connection with politics and war. Strikes against politicians who violate human rights, wars and murders based on different opinions, points of view, religions. But why is a word that is strictly against such misdeeds associated with suffering and grief? Isn't it the case that when we hear the word human right we always immediately think of the human rights violations in our world, of the poor people in Africa or of the African-Americans who are only seen as inferior because of their skin color. But why is that so? Why are more and more people being executed around the world even though fewer and fewer countries are practicing the death penalty? According to Amnesty International, 2019 executions were carried out in 657, excluding China. In addition, over 25.000 people around the world are waiting on death row until their last hour strikes. Banned worldwide, but torture is also widespread worldwide. Torture is said to have been documented in 2009 countries between 2014 and 141. Politicians try to come to power through fraud and violence in order to control and thereby steer people in their countries. As an example you can take the presidential election in Belarus, where Alexander Lukashenko apparently won with 80,23 percent and therefore thousands of people took to the streets to protest against him. From violence to murder, everything is tried to divert people from their struggle for freedom. Freedom of conscience and religion as well as freedom of expression, assembly and association are viewed as unimportant and hindered in many countries around the world. Wars are the bitter reality of many people and leave them without a home or land. More and more children are dying from malnutrition and diet-related diseases.

Is this the future Martin Luther King dreamed of? Is this our better world? Is that the cohesion that makes us all happy? I do not think so. I think we will have to dream for a long time until our children are judged not on the basis of their skin color, origin, religion, political point of view or social status, but on the basis of their character. Today we are still far from that. If you take a closer look at our world, you won't find a better future, just a dream that has not come true.
