The spirit of our society

What will our generation be remembered for? For not using her potential? For not acting in time when it was just the right time? We want to change something and yet we are too easy to turn our big words into action. Yet our future is not important enough to us to rise up to try and prevent our worst fears. We all think thousands of thoughts every day and yet most of them hardly waste one on something as important as the future of our home planet. We all act, but we are not aware of the consequences of our actions. We think, in our comfortable manner, “What can one change alone?” But the question is rhetorical.

The truth is that although we think we know the answer, we don't want to hear it, don't even need to hear it, because we are not changing our behavior anyway. Leisurely as we humans are, we use them as an excuse not to have to act. Getting out of yourself and advocating for something that is outside of our comfort zone is a huge problem for the majority of the world's population. A problem that they do not want to solve, as solving the problem requires stepping out of one's comfort and to act. That's why everything stays as usual. Everything stays the same, no one has to exert themselves unnecessarily and no one is committed to saving our planet.

And those who have decided to act, those who have decided to stand up for the future, fail miserably because of the laziness of the rest of the population. Not only do they sacrifice their time and energy for a greater good, but they also encounter resistance. You will meet people who have not yet opened their eyes and who downplay and even deny that goal, although the consequences are already clearly visible! Take, for example, the American President, a big animal who should actually be expected to deal with these issues and act accordingly. As one of the most important and influential people on this endangered planet, he even denies the existing danger, denies the rising temperature and, quite comfortably, blames it on other things.

He is the perfect example for the average person: too lazy to deal with processes outside of his comfort zone and to worry about things that may be exhausting and strange, but lead to self-discovery and open your eyes. However, if we all work together and open our eyes to today's problems and try to solve them instead of just denying them for the sake of convenience, we may end up saving not only the planet but also the spirit of our society.
