(Istanbul) - Turkish authorities may have investigated hundreds of student protesters, Human Rights Watch said today. The students were arrested during weeks of protests against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's appointment of an academic as rector of one of Turkey's leading universities.

Students and academic staff at Istanbul Boğaziçi University have exercised their rightful right to peacefully express their rejection of the appointment, which they see as a step to enforce state control over the institution, and academic autonomy and Undermine freedom.
