Lockdown = Knockdown / better coping with the corona crisis

Of course, a complete shutdown is the best way to stop the spread of the corona virus. If you only consider the problem as virology and don't see the resulting collateral damage, then the complete shutdown is the only correct solution. The "two-handed" is appropriate for fighting an unknown enemy. Today, however, information about corona, its distribution, course, death risks and susceptibility is largely known, so one should now consider precise surgical interventions with the fine scalpel.

Are there solutions how we can quickly get out of the lockdown, but still guarantee the protection of those at risk without causing even greater damage to the economy?

As part of the high-risk group with life experience and with reasonably intact common sense, I do an analysis and from this I deduce approaches.

Below, the undeniable facts:

  • There are mild and severe courses of this disease.
  • The human body can obviously produce antibodies and defeat the disease.
  • The survival probability of young people without previous exposure is 100%
  • According to the BAG, the average age of deaths in Switzerland is 85 years so far.
  • The age of the survivors from the intensive care units is unknown, but certainly also relatively high.
  • People over the age of 65 with a previous exposure are particularly at risk.

The conclusion from these facts and figures is brutal, but clear: the protective measures are especially for the older generation. The price is paid by the middle and younger generation, who will bear the consequences of the incredible economic damage in the future.

My logical conclusions from the facts:

  • We have to be older people even better, but selective protect.
  • The older and vulnerable age group should bear the main burden of the measures.
  • The young and middle generation should be harmed as little as possible.

How can selective protection be guaranteed with the least possible damage?

  • Limit the contact potential of the seniors: The shopping centers and shops are exclusively open to seniors over 65 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 14 p.m. to 16 p.m. Seniors (for their own protection) have to schedule their journeys by train and public transport during these times. Outside of these times, seniors are prohibited from going out. This does not include hikes to maintain health away from busy places.
  • Limit the contact potential of the seniors every day:  4 name groups are formed. The elderly are divided into four groups of equal size with the first letter of the name. Each group can only go public and go shopping every fourth day. This also excludes hikes to maintain health away from the busy places.
  • Reduce the contact potential of seniors within families: The risk group is temporarily banned from making direct contact with younger people within the family, especially with grandchildren.
  • Reduce the contagion potential for seniors in the immediate vicinity: Screening of all contacts to senior citizens. All people in care or service who have direct contact with risk seniors, or who want to have it, are compulsorily and regularly tested for Corona.

This could selectively exert an incredibly large influence (greater than through shutdown) on the infection rate of the risk group

What else needs to be done to avert the disaster?

  • Immediately open all restaurants and services, transport companies, schools with local restrictions. This results in a relatively quick, but also relatively harmless, infection of the younger generation. Since the generations are isolated from one another, there will be no encroachment on the risk generation.
  • Protective measures everywhere in the open companies. Droplet system, number of access restrictions, masks. Everyone should take responsibility for the protective measures locally.
  • Appeal to the population: When the first symptoms appear, stay at home immediately and take care of them like you would with a normal cold and flu. (Pharmacists should be able to sell appropriate funds freely and without a prescription).
  • Corona test for people who are not supposed to belong to a risk group should only be carried out if severe symptoms occur.

What else: do fewer corona tests, so we only count more harmless courses. We have never done flu tests either. The more we test, the more corona cases we have, the more panic we produce. We should focus on effectively and better protecting the risk group of the elderly with targeted individual measures. All politicians, model computers, virologists and mathematicians are asked to think immediately and to come up with better suggestions.
