Digitization with a sense of proportion

Technology should serve people and preserve the basis of life!

In terms of digitization, developments such as those in banking and finance since the 1980s can be observed. The original task of collecting money from savers and investors and using it to finance investments in the "real" economy has been neglected more and more in order to speculate with "financial products" since this brings in more profit. The whole thing has turned into a kind of "end in itself"...

Something similar can now be observed in the area of digitization and telecommunications. Instead of ensuring that the real economy is supplied with the necessary information, digitization has become an end in itself that all decision-makers are blindly chasing after, out of sheer fear of missing the boat...

At the moment it looks like we are being forced to feed the digital systems with more and more data so that we can carry out the desired process at all. We have to agree to everything to even get to the next step.

The technology thus primarily serves itself and the interests of Big Brother, who wants to know everything about us, supposedly in order to be able to satisfy our wishes even better...

And then all the technology has to be constantly updated, here a software update, then new hardware again because the old one no longer meets the requirements, there additional data and again a declaration of consent because data has to be processed at an additional point. And if you don't do this, or if you accidentally make a wrong entry, then nothing works anymore....

This needs to be changed. The technology has to FOR people are there and not the other way around! Companies, institutions and private individuals must have secure and problem-free access to information. Digital processes must be quick and easy to do with a minimum of input. Alternatively, analogue paths must be available as a “reserve”!

Governments and corporations must not do what they want with our data without being asked.

Priority cable over radio

The transmission of data by radio costs significantly more energy, since scattering losses have to be taken into account here, then only limited bandwidths are available due to "finite" frequencies, at some point all bands are "dense". – In addition, wireless connections can be tapped, disrupted and even manipulated by unauthorized persons.

Transmission via fiber optics costs less energy, and when bandwidth is tight, all you need to do is lay additional lines. And anyone who wants to "get involved" without authorization must at least gain direct access to the lines. Incidentally, transmission via fiber optics is emission-free!

Responsible mobile communications

The first thing to do here is to establish limit values that really protect people and nature. The 10.000.000 µW/m² (10 W/m²) that currently apply in Germany only protect against overheating from radiation at best...

One approach here would be, for example, the "Salzburg precautionary values" from 2002:

  • 1 µW/m² in buildings
  • 10 µW/m² outdoors

0,001 µW/m² are already sufficient for cell phone reception.

The Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) followed these recommendations in 2008. This would restore the protection of the home guaranteed by the Grunge Act (Article 13, Paragraph 1). Problem-free reception would be guaranteed outside the building.

The newly founded limit value commission ICBE-EMF (International Commission on the Biological Effects of EMF) is proving the unscientific nature of the ICNIRP guidelines, to which we owe the totally excessive limit values.

If 1 µW/m² is still too much for them, particularly sensitive people could further reduce the exposure in their home with relatively simple shielding measures.

With the current loads, you unfortunately have to put in a lot of effort if you still want to get tolerable values in your own four walls. This situation is intolerable - it must not go on like this!

Technology FOR the people

Digitization must serve people and not the other way around. Digitizing processes only makes sense where it brings real relief for everyone involved. So far, it has tended to be that in the end only more effort is required. A joke by Uli Stein says: "...Erwin solves all the problems on the computer that he didn't have without a computer..."

This includes clearly structured user interfaces and menu structures, the whole thing must be self-explanatory and only require the most necessary data to be entered!

Nobody wants to go to the trouble of reading a manual just to use a toaster. Cars are also standardized to such an extent that everyone can start driving right away...

In the world of work, too, you should take a close look to see where digitization really brings advantages for the company, employees, suppliers and customers.

Where there are no advantages - hands off unnecessary digitization!

Privacy

With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it has become clear to many what data is collected in digital processes. One gets the impression that the aforementioned regulation primarily affects the "small" providers, who have to provide their digital offers with pages of data protection declarations that state exactly where they collect which data and what happens to it. If you don't do this, warnings are threatened...

But the big international tech companies grab whatever data they can get their hands on. These can hardly be admonished, since the competent authorities are located in countries where one has no recourse against such practices.

These must also clearly disclose what kind of data is collected for what and what happens next with this data (storage, processing and transfer). The maxims of data economy and transparency apply.

You should be aware of your power as a customer and stop buying from such companies...

Shut up, Alexa!: I don't buy from Amazon

Users are also asked to be “sparing” with their data and maybe consider whether you really have to publish everything about yourself on social media...

… data is the gold of the 21st century …

My gold is mine!

Consumer power

Many devices that can be bought in "specialist" markets and online are now "smart". Televisions, washing machines, refrigerators - they all collect data and pass it on wirelessly (WLAN) - crazy!

Let's use our power as consumers and specifically ask for devices WITHOUT radio, or for those where the radio can be switched off easily and permanently. The more customers ask about it, the more retailers and manufacturers will respond. If necessary, do without new purchases and let the providers sit on their “smart” technology!

The banknotes that we leave in the store are also voting slips! – If all this smart sh… can no longer be sold, it will disappear from the market very quickly…

right to analogue

There must also be an analogue alternative everywhere so that people without computers, smartphones and the like can also take part. The keywords inclusion and digital detox play a major role here.

Instead of pushing through a kind of forced digitization, one should see that analogue systems are a valuable alternative if the digital systems, for whatever reason (power failure, hacker attack), sometimes don't work...

right to cash

Even if cashless payment systems certainly have their advantages (convenient & fast, sometimes large amounts, etc.) - it is also very important to have the option of continuing to pay with cash.

Every digitally processed payment is registered and also automatically analyzed. Then the corresponding providers earn money with every booking, which is reflected in the prices.

Cash makes more sense for small amounts in particular, and everyone should be able to freely decide who to give something to (tip, donation, gift) without the transaction being recorded in a computer system.

digital education

Digital education, as is currently being propagated by the ministries of education, provides for all schools to be equipped with tablets and WiFi. The providers of hardware and software primarily benefit from this.

https://option.news/vorsicht-wlan-an-schulen/

Despite protestations to the contrary, the digital education concept does not work. This was painfully experienced when schools were closed during the Corona pandemic. The educational deficits have reached an unprecedented extent. It was thought that teachers and face-to-face classes could be replaced by digital learning. Schools and ministries thought that the costs for teachers could be saved, and the tech companies sensed a huge deal in equipping the schools.

The whole thing would have resulted in a 2-class system in education:

  1. Digital learning with the robot for low-income groups who are dependent on state education.
  2. Expensive private schools with human teachers for those who can afford the tuition

There is no substitute for learning with other students, guided by dedicated teachers. However, digital media can certainly be an enrichment of the lesson, since information can be processed very well here.

Basics must be taught in school education, such as a broad general education as a basis for later further training, the ability to think critically, to classify facts, to independently expand one's own wealth of knowledge and to develop creative solutions to problems. In most cases, this is best done analogously! Even the social skills that are required when working with others cannot be taught by a machine.

These basics also include the safe and responsible use of digital media, awareness of data protection and data security, as well as knowledge of effective research methods on the Internet.

The point here is that the schools educate the children and young people to become independent thinkers instead of just producing functioning cogs for the economic machinery. This brings us back to the classic humanistic ideal of education...

telemedicine

Here in particular, the highest standards must apply in terms of data protection and data security, since this is extremely sensitive data. Everyone involved should be aware of this. Half-baked solutions don't serve anyone here, on the contrary, something like that can fall on our feet...

Of course, it would be a great relief if treating doctors, therapists, pharmacies, hospitals and laboratories could digitally access a central patient file. This helps to avoid unnecessary double examinations or to determine to what extent changes have occurred in a new examination. The availability of special medicines could also be queried in order to easily search for alternatives if necessary.

With a corresponding connection to the health insurance companies, billing could also be made easier. Of course, the patient, as the person most affected, must also have access to this.

For reasons of data security and freedom from radiation, data collection and queries in clinics and practices must be carried out with stationary, wired devices. Where it is not practical without mobile devices (tablets), these can be temporarily connected with a cable for the necessary data exchange.

What only works rudimentarily, if at all, is the medical diagnosis and advice by phone / screen. At best, only an initial assessment of the situation can be made here. A precise medical examination is only possible on site!

Here, too, one probably speculated on a 2-class system:

  1. Telemedicine for simple health insurance patients
  2. medical examination & treatment for private patients

In addition, there is the psychological effect of a direct conversation or treatment by a doctor you trust, which should not be underestimated

Recycling of the electronic devices

The whole digitization requires a lot of technology:

All of these devices contain copper, rare earths, lithium, gold, etc. These materials are largely extracted under dire environmental and social conditions. So you can say that a standard smartphone has an ecological "rucksack" of 70 - 80 kg of pollutants, overburden, waste water, etc.

Due to the enormous technical progress of the last 25 years, all of these devices are becoming obsolete in very short cycles, more and more powerful processors, more and more storage capacity, always new internal and external interfaces. This led to a rapidly growing mountain of electrical and electronic waste. – This development must be stopped!

Job cuts / job relocation

Already at the beginning there was massive job cuts due to the use of robots, especially with very monotonous work processes, such as the same spot welds in the same places, e.g. on a car body...

In return, new jobs have been created in the construction/maintenance of the machines and in the programming of the controls. It was even claimed that more jobs were created in IT than were eliminated through their use...

With the upcoming changes, as they are emerging through the further development of artificial intelligence (AI), many "mental workers" who have previously considered themselves indispensable will also be replaced by AI. ..

Automatically created texts for veiee occasions not only make educational institutions and lawyers ponder. Automatically created program code could put some programmers out of work...

What happens to all the people who will probably lose their livelihood in the long term?

Does the AI pay them for their living? Or the big tech companies that make their profits off of stuff like that? The general public can no longer take over this, since fewer and fewer people will be employed to pay taxes and social security contributions...

Free Internet

Unfortunately, monetary efforts are currently underway here, "multi-class systems" are to be installed, people with money can then afford faster and better access to more relevant offers, the others then have to be satisfied with the rest...

It's about who has the "finger" on the information published there? In a "classic" library, the information is in the form of books, scrolls, and the like. If you want to manipulate here, you usually have to exchange entire books. However, if all of this is only in electronic form on servers in data centers, anyone with the appropriate access can change this information to suit their needs. – Geoge Orwell described this most clearly in “1984”.

In this respect, it is also good if there are still normal, classic-analog backups of the information, for example in book form

The big tech companies like Meta (facebook) & Alphabet (google) grab whatever data they can get. The aim is to create a detailed profile, a “digital twin”, of every user. You want to know everything about people in order to be able to manipulate them in your interest.

These data octopuses must be stopped!

I can only advise you not to use google services (e.g. search engine) anymore, here all data (time, place & device) of the search query as well as the question itself are saved, analyzed and assigned to said profile. In addition, you can't shake off the suspicion that the results are being manipulated in order to slow down "undesirable" pages. – Unfortunately, something similar can also be found on wikipedia…

The original thought of the Internet must be revived, namely to enable worldwide access to information for all people. Likewise, the possibility for everyone to provide information for everyone else.

The Internet as a possibility for global information and communication. The aim here is to get away from the tendencies towards centralization and monopolization and back to decentralized structures and more diversity among the actors.

Authoritarian regimes in particular are also trying to censor content, spy on critics, or make access to certain information or even the entire network more difficult or even block it.

Conclusion

Do we want to completely plunder our planet to plaster everything with electronic devices, only to then let technology replace us?

Do we want to be fobbed off with a virtual illusory world generated by AI?

Instead, we should rather use our own intelligence to create a livable reality for us and our descendants!
