Do you know that there are over 530 species of sharks in our oceans?
These predatory fish play critical roles in the health of marine ecosystems. Here YOU can find some information about five wonderful shark species: hammerhead, whale shark, blue shark, great white shark and giant shark. Why does the hammerhead shark have such a head shape? Is the whale shark dangerous? How do great white sharks hunt? Why is the basking shark called 'basking shark' in English?
It's time to swap fear for fascination and enjoy these 5 amazing species of sharks!

An estimated 100 million sharks are killed worldwide every year - many illegally and with brutal methods. With shark finning, fishermen only cut off the fins of the sharks and throw the animals overboard again. Above all, overfishing contributes to the fact that 36 percent of all shark and ray species are now on the red list and are considered threatened with extinction. The WWF wants to increase its commitment worldwide to combat hunting of sharks and protect their habitat.

To stop the global decline in the world's most threatened shark and ray populations, we want to launch the Shark Recovery Initiative.

Only with your support can we save the sharks, take action against cruel finning and protect their habitat:

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the largest and most experienced conservation organizations in the world and active in more than 100 countries. Around five million supporters worldwide support him. WWF's global network maintains 90 offices in more than 40 countries. Around the world, employees are currently running 1300 biodiversity conservation projects.

The most important instruments of WWF conservation work are the designation of protected areas and the sustainable, ie nature-friendly use of our natural assets. In addition, the WWF is committed to reducing pollution and wasteful consumption at the expense of nature.

Worldwide, WWF Germany is involved in 21 international project regions for nature conservation. Priorities include the preservation of the Earth's last major forests - in the tropics and in temperate regions -, the fight against climate change, the use of living seas as well as the preservation of rivers and wetlands worldwide. WWF Germany also runs numerous projects and programs in Germany.

The WWF's goal is clear: if we succeed in sustainably preserving the greatest possible diversity of habitats, we can also save a large part of the world's animal and plant species - and at the same time preserve the network of life that also bears us humans.
