Cece Carpio lives in Oakland in the Ohlone Territory and paints people and places that work towards a more worthy existence. She creates murals as a form of resistance to demand justice for black lives, shows that a better world is possible, and shows the shift necessary to achieve a fair COVID recovery for everyone.

With acrylic, ink, aerosol and installations, her work also tells stories about immigration, origin and resilience. She documents evolving traditions by combining folkloric forms, bold portraits and natural elements with urban art techniques. She often works with her Trust Your Struggle collective, teaching and traveling around the world to find the perfect wall.

About the series "How Art Changes the World": Greenpeace turned to artists in our community to create works of art that represent the power of solidarity, community resistance and community organization in times of crisis. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic - and even more, since the black life movement in the United States has become so much more conscious - resistance has taken on new forms and people have acted in solidarity in new ways and with new allies. However, the need to get together, to raise the voices of those affected and to organize against our exploitative and extractive systems is nothing new.

With this in mind, we have submitted proposals for public works of art of all sizes that highlight the various forms of public resistance that are taking place at this moment. The goal: to show everyone who is invested in the fight for social and ecological justice that they are not alone in order to demand a good life and good health for everyone.
