It is one of the largest oil spills in the Russian Arctic: 21.000 tons of diesel fuel and chemicals leaked from the storage of a power plant near Norilsk into the Siberian tundra and rivers at the end of May. Most of the oil spilled into the Ambarnaya River and continues towards the open sea. Satellite images show how the river has already changed color over many kilometers. The Siberian tundra is in a landscape that can hardly regenerate due to the short growing season. Researchers believe that the Norilsk accident could also result from the dramatic climate crisis and rapid global warming - the Arctic has a massive permafrost problem.
We must leave the oil age as quickly as possible to prevent such catastrophes in the future. Germany also needs a green restart of the economy - sign our petition ► https://act.gp/37lSsju
