Since Wednesday, 28. August 2019, in all municipalities in Austria, the climate change requests.
It calls for the anchoring of climate protection in the Federal Constitution, an eco-social tax and tax reform, a transparent and mandatory CO2 budget and an energy and transport change.
For a referendum to succeed, it needs 100.000 signatures. These can be submitted to the municipal office or city council or online via mobile phone signature or citizen card.

After just one day, the first hurdle of 8.401 signatures was successfully taken. 8.401 signatures are required to submit the climate change request to the Ministry of the Interior. However, it will certainly continue to collect until December. All signatures that are added are already counting for the registration week.
“This is a sensation! We are excited about this great first wave of support. A big thank you to everyone who has accompanied us on this journey so far! But now things are really getting started - now it is time to collect enough signatures so that climate protection is given a high priority even after the election campaign, ”said Katharina Rogenhofer, spokeswoman for the popular initiative for climate change, and her team in unison.
The Climate Action Commission is committed to anchoring climate protection in the constitution, a CO2 budget for local authorities, an eco-social tax reform and an energy and transport change. The demands were worked out with experts from science and environmental organizations.
