In Hungary, critical voices can hardly make their voice heard. The media landscape is shaped by the government-related "Central European Media Foundation", which owns more than 500 local and national newspapers.
Zsolt Porcin is a nationally recognized journalist. He was editor-in-chief of a regional newspaper (Hajdu-Bihari Napló) until the newspaper's owner changed: oligarch Lőrinc Mészáros, a good friend of Prime Minister Orbán, became the owner of the newspaper. Zsolt was dismissed for political reasons after the change of ownership. But he continues to fight for freedom of expression and a free press.
