On one of the final Fire Drill Fridays in 2020, we will focus on the critical runoff elections for two Senate seats in Georgia, the outcome of which will determine whether Democrats or Republicans win control of the Senate.

About the guests:

Ben Jealous is President of the People For the American Way and People For the American Way Foundation. Jealous has decades of experience as a leader, coalition builder, social justice activist, and seasoned nonprofit manager. In 2008 he was elected the youngest President and CEO of the NAACP. The Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland in 2018 was jealous and was most recently a partner at Kapor Capital.

Jamil Favors is a lawyer, attorney specializing in voting rights, and a native of Atlanta. He is currently Deputy Director of Voting for Community Outreach at the Democratic Party of Georgia. Before joining the DPG, Jamil was a lawyer in an international law firm.

Shaniqua McClendon has been in politics for a decade and currently serves as Political Director for Crooked Media, home of the popular podcast Pod Save America. In that role, Shaniqua led the creation of her voter retention program, Vote Save America, which supported the victories of the 2018 Democratic Victories across the country and is currently working to continue to do so in 2020. Prior to Crooked Media, Shaniqua worked as a White House intern with President Barack Obama before serving as policy advisor to Senator Kay R. Hagan and as legislative director to Congressman Alma S. Adams.

Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood is from the South and has worked in the Georgia progressive community for six years. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Georgia with an emphasis on local government and public policy. Aisha developed a strong passion for immigration rights and civic engagement when she founded the Georgia Muslim Voter Project and worked as Policy Director for Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta. These experiences have reinforced their desire to fight for justice for all marginalized people, including Muslims, immigrants and refugees.
