Everyone can agree on Checker Tobi. Children just like their parents. Whether the TV is about the cow in the stable, the blood in the body or death. There are enough big and difficult topics. Tobi Krell has been on TV for 10 years now. Winner of many awards and in cinemas for the first time in 2018. Back then it was about nothing less than “The Secret of our Planet”, which meant water. The climate crisis already played a central role.
Five years, a pandemic and a summer full of dramatic climate and environmental news later, we talk to Tobi in the ÜberLeben podcast about his second cinema adventure. The big questions about the film are asked by children, i.e. those at whom the film is aimed. The climate crisis, we learn, is taking on an increasingly present role in Checker's work. Anyone who sees the film experiences it in the fragility of a gigantic cave in Vietnam, in the bitterly cold plains of Mongolia and in the massively threatened Amazon rainforest.
This is where it becomes particularly clear how dramatic the future can look for our planet if politicians and society do not care about real climate protection.
