Torn and crumpled up: alternative gift packaging

Torn and crumpled alternative gift packaging

According to the Federal Association of Secondary Raw Materials and Disposal (BVSE), Germans produce around ten percent more waste between Christmas and New Year than the annual average. In addition to the high environmental impact, the most senseless purchase at Christmas is wrapping paper. You pay outrageous prices for paper that is made to be thrown away - on Christmas Eve you have to watch how the painstakingly and lovingly folded 5 € paper is then torn and crumpled within seconds - not only hurts your wallet.

For economic, but also for ecological reasons, gifts can also be packaged differently. It's easy and tasteful with alternatives that can be found in every home:

  • Recycled newsprint
  • Leftover packages from the post office
  • Reusable fabrics (t-shirts that are cut or purchased fabrics)
  • Burlap sack
  • Jars (e.g. jam jar)

The gifts can be wrapped with yarn and decorated with a small pine branch. This saves you a few pennies for the wrapping paper during the expensive Christmas season and does something good for the environment!
