Every year, at Christmas time, the meat business really gets going. The winners are the dealers. The losers are the animals that live and die for the flesh. And the farmers who should deliver as much meat as possible as cheaply as possible.
Most consumers do not want meat from factory farming. But on the product packaging they are not informed about the keeping conditions of the animals. On the contrary: the beautiful product names sound more like a farm idyll than an animal factory.
Some supermarkets have taken a first important step and have introduced a postage mark. There consumers can see directly on the product how the animals were kept. #Edeka is the only major German supermarket that has not introduced a postage code!
That's why we ask #Edeka:
- Indicates the type of livestock and origin on all meat products.
- Make a commitment to only sell meat from species-friendly and environmentally friendly production in the future.
- Developed an action plan to better produce all of our own fresh meat range - starting with pork.
