The pictures are disturbing. But the Amazon fires are no accident. Brazil is the largest beef exporter in the world. The beautiful forests in the Amazon region - home to thousands of plant and animal species - are deliberately cleared and burned to make room for cattle breeding.
Throughout South America, forests are being destroyed to produce absurd amounts of meat and fodder to meet rising global demand.
Save the Amazon. Eat less meat.
