The Ferme des Savanes is a farm conceived according to the design principles of permaculture as an agroforestry project and has been carried out in Apples (VD) in horizontal and shared management since 2021. The model is the North American savanna consisting of various trees, shrubs, bushes and perennials. Through the multi-level orchard, we store CO2 in the ground. We will plant hedges to reduce wind drying and hence water requirements. And at the same time, biodiversity is increased.

Diverse, Welcoming, Supportive and Friendly Farming: The farm is a symbol of our times as we move from a pesticide and monoculture agriculture to a diversified model that respects and conserves biodiversity, whether wild or cultivated. As part of strategies to adapt to global warming, we create microclimates (windbreaks, variable shade, moisture linked to tree transpiration, etc.), while promoting diversity.

On the farm we want to try, exchange and share different strategies and techniques for adapting to and mitigating global warming. The aim is to live off a sustainable, post-oil-age agriculture based on resilience and food sovereignty as well as technical independence. The strategies and techniques that will be introduced over the next few years are part of the answer to the transgression of global boundaries: global warming, of course, but also the loss of biodiversity and the disruption of nitrogen and phosphorus cycles.
