Packing of grass

Exciting innovation: The packaging company Constantia Flexibles is currently testing a solution for sustainable food packaging made of grass.

The material is manufactured according to the manufacturer without bleaching or other chemical treatments and with very low water consumption. The grass paper packaging replaces plastic and can be returned to the recycling cycle via conventional paper recycling.

Grass paper consists of 40% of sun-dried grass and 60% of FSC-certified pulp, ie of 100% renewable, recyclable and naturally grown raw materials. The natural grass paper is refined by Constantia Flexibles into a barrier to packaging material to meet the specific requirements of packaging - such as aroma resistance - according to the company.

"According to our tests, this innovation can also be used as packaging in the demanding food segment and above all in the chocolate sector in various ways," explains Stefan Grote, Head of the Constantia Flexibles Food Division in a press release.
