Survey: own car is indispensable for many

A representative survey on behalf of an online car market asked for reasons that could induce Austrian drivers to give up their own car. All in all, one observes: “Austrians are reluctant to go without a car, and there are practical reasons for that. For almost every second person who lives in the country, the car is indispensable for daily errands. Around 42 percent still have poor public transport connections. The way to work (41 percent) also often makes the car necessary. "

Most of the respondents who did not want to do without their car gave the reason for the independence or freedom (61 percent agree) that the car enables them and that makes it so irreplaceable. Almost a third of those surveyed (31 percent) are certain that they will not be without a car in the future. According to the survey, men and women are balanced.

Despite increased work in the home office and the resulting lack of commuting, only 13 percent think that they would do without a car for this reason. “Sharing instead of owning is also little motivation for Austrians, because switching to car-sharing systems does not even give every tenth person an opportunity to do without their own car. The guilty conscience of owning a car even though it is not really needed would only be a reason for 8 percent to give it up after all, ”the broadcast said.
