More than 500 kg of waste per capita in 2019

According to the Federal Environment Agency, the total volume of waste in Austria in 2019 was around 71,26 million tons. In addition to excavated material with 59%, construction and demolition waste account for the largest share with 16,1%. The amount of waste from construction has increased by 2015% since 15.

A report by the Federal Environment Agency states: “The share of municipal waste from households and similar facilities was around 4,5 million tons. This corresponds to a per capita volume of approx. 507 kg. This corresponds to a moderate increase of around 2018% compared to 2. More than half of the municipal waste was recycled. "

The figures for the Corona year 2020 will not be published until next year. However, the Federal Environment Agency is expecting certain shifts: "While a decrease in the amount of waste from industry, production and tourism is to be expected, it is expected that the amount of waste from households will be higher."
