Climate protection yes, change behavior? Rather not

In the wake of the corona crisis, the car experienced another surge in popularity. Whether it is a drive-in cinema, a car disco or a car circus, right up to the wedding at the car, the car offers distance and thus ensures greater security against viruses. According to a survey by AutoScout24.at, 20 percent of the drivers surveyed want to use the car even more after the crisis for safety reasons to protect themselves from infection - bad news for climate protectors.

But: The survey also shows that 84 percent of Austrian car owners are concerned with climate change and three out of four respondents would take climate protection aspects into account when making a new purchase.

However, the climate is not a pleasure to go without: only four out of ten respondents stated that they would not take short car trips, another ten percent plan this measure and at least 35 percent can imagine it. The total number of kilometers driven has already been reduced by 28 percent, ten percent are planning it and around a third think it is conceivable. "Even parts for climate protection do not seem to be an attractive measure, because car sharing and the use of carpools or carpools are rated as inconceivable by 60 percent," says the broadcast.
