Against the Current - Editorial by Helmut Melzer

Helmut Melzer

"If the economy is doing well, we're all fine," said retired WKO boss Christoph Leitl. A nonsense that requires a very one-sided approach - at least I think. Because who leads this option issue to heart, inevitably comes to this conclusion: pure business interests and their rat tail lobbyists left apart from sometimes questionable jobs only burned-out soil, and often not even a corresponding tax revenue. It's hard to be optimistic.

Maybe you have this year like me on vacation, the great yachts of the "business elite" admired. Apart from the fact that probably a frightening high percentage of the wealth in noble ports can be attributed to drug, girl or arms trade - bare sorrow of others - would we have given the conditions on our planet and the sometimes drab prognoses for the future not those neat captains in the face spit ? But what do we do? We enviously admire the wealth. And that is probably a basic problem of our society: We allow all the evil and still applaud.

Let us swim against the tide - and cheer for those people and companies who act responsibly. Our true elite. Everyone else in the pillory.
