Federal Youth Council for more participation in EU

The Federal Youth Council (BJV) has written a position paper on the subject of "Youth and EU-ropa". In it, she calls for more opportunities for young people to participate at European level and calls for:

  • Electoral retirement on 16 years EU-wide
  • Expanded online consultation to strengthen participation

"All in all, there is a need for reforms in the elections to the European Parliament in order to bring the European population closer to the population, for example through supraregional candidates," explains BJV chairman Martina Tiwald.

Education

In education, Chair Tiwald points to the need for common educational goals: "EU-wide educational goals will further facilitate the educational mobility of young people and better credit for educational attainment. In addition, multilingualism in education systems needs to be better promoted to give students more opportunities in the education and labor market sectors. "

Central demands of the BJV:

  • Strengthening democracy and transparency, as well as online consultation and e-participation
  • EU-wide electoral reduction on 16 years
  • Promoting Youth Participation, Further Development of the Structured Dialogue
  • Strengthening European education and EU-wide educational goals
  • Sufficiently funded inclusive and low-threshold youth development programs (Erasmus +)
  • Digital ID card system
  • Pan-European action against youth unemployment
  • Evaluation and development of the Youth Employment Initiative
  • Common standards for platform-jobs
  • Consistent transparency of origin for food and commitment to sustainability
  • Fair, free and transparent trade policy of the EU, which ensures the quality and value standards of the EU
  • Promoting multilingualism beyond the first foreign language
