Framing as a means to combat the climate crisis

"If we want to achieve a climate-neutral future as quickly as possible, we have to work together - and language also plays an important role," says Peter Traupmann, Managing Director of the Austrian Energy Agency. The latter has now written an energy handbook that provides "support for a language that can be used to make changes in behavior more easily".

“The term 'global warming' was one of the triggers why we developed our energy handbook,” says Traupmann. Because heat is a positive term. For example, people find warm sunshine more pleasant than cold wind. The concept also applies in a figurative sense, Traupmann points out: “We warm up for a good idea, we make friends with warm-hearted people or our hearts warm up when we see small children. 'Global warming' is therefore extremely unsuitable if we point out the dangers and urgent need for action that will arise from a global rise in temperature, ”says Traupmann.

So should Framing can be used with the help of the energy manual as one of the means against the climate crisis.

The energy manual is publicly available Download is available for storage, management and analysis.
