Industrial fishing and exploitation, global warming and pollution threaten the oceans, our key allies in the fight against the climate crisis and the extinction of species. The German seas of the North and Baltic Seas also urgently need real protected areas that do not only exist on paper. Even in designated conservation areas, crab fishermen drag their nets across the ocean floor, porpoises and seabirds drown in nets. Only real, large-scale protected areas in which nature can relax can help.
