The ever-popular fruit is said to have many health-promoting properties: it helps against cancer and asthma, protects the cardiovascular system, lowers cholesterol levels and makes an important contribution to the prevention of osteoporosis. Is that the reason why the apple is Austria's most popular fruit?
In order to reduce pesticide contamination on fresh fruit and vegetables, GLOBAL 2000 developed the Pesticide Reduction Program (PRP) in 2002. This has been implemented since 2003 in collaboration with BILLA and since 2006 also with BILLA PLUS (formerly Merkurmarkt) and PENNY, three supermarkets owned by REWE International AG. All test results are published on the Billa homepage.
