In the heart of the Indian Ocean there is a hidden underwater shore full of life. Minke blue whales, flying fish and the largest seagrass meadow in the world live in the Saya de Malha Bank. It is also one of the largest carbon sinks in the ocean, locking away carbon that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere.

However, our oceans are under unprecedented pressure - from environmental pollution, industrial fishing and climate protection. And this incredible place is no exception.

The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise was with an international team of scientists at the Saya de Malha Bank to map and research the wild animals living and breeding here.

In order to remain extremely unbiased, Greenpeace is funded 100% independently of supporters like you.
