Anna's tail was cut off in the conventional pig farm where she was born. In Austria this is done routinely with 95% of the pigs - although the law forbids this as a routine measure.
This procedure is common in the pig industry, because the animals often bite each other's tails and injure each other when they are kept dreary on fully slatted floors. But even with docked tails, deep bite wounds are often to be found on the tails in fully slatted flooring.
Anna will forever have a sensitive tail stub. But at least their life is no longer threatened today. Anna now lives in safety.
