During our project visits, we repeatedly meet particularly impressive women like Luje, who has set up a small business with the help of a microcredit. She was so successful that she was able to build a house for the family. A microcredit does not only give women like Luje an income. The new independence also improves their social position and the microcredit groups have a weighted voice in the community. Feminist and suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst would certainly have been happy about this development. (Incidentally, Emmeline Pankhurst is the grandmother of the co-founder of the "Institute of Ethiopian Studies" at the University of Addis Ababa.)
