Vivienne Westwood supports Oxfams #SecondHandSeptember

CONTRIBUTION IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

More and more celebrities are joining #SecondHandSeptemberOxfam's campaign to say no to buying new clothes for 30 days and to buy second-hand fashion instead. Designer Vivienne Westwood donated a handbag, Henry Holland shoes and singer Paloma Faith supported the campaign with personal things when London Fashion Week started on Friday.

Former Vogue deputy editor Emily Sheffield, who started the #ThisMuchIKnow media company, has designed an Instagram wardrobe challenge that encourages people to clear out their wardrobes with their friends and followers on social media I'm going to Oxfam , Designer items will be available for sale on Vestiaire on September 19.

Oxfam also organizes a weekly raffle on social media. Users can share their second-hand finds or upcycling items during second-hand September to get a chance at prizes.

Oxfam found that 11 million pieces of clothing end up in a UK landfill every week. In the UK, more than two tons of clothing are bought every minute. If you only buy a new white cotton shirt, the same emissions are caused as when driving for 35 miles. The textile industry causes more greenhouse gas emissions than the shipping and aerospace industries combined.

To keep prices down, workers' clothing is thrown away from the world's poorest communities and paid under the living wage.

With donated Oxfam fashion, the organization tries to raise money to help the world's poorest get access to essentials like clean water, and is fighting for their right to a fair wage and protection from climate change.
