Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mauthausen Committee Austria organized one 75 years after the liberation Virtual International Liberation Celebration on May 10, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with contemporary witness statements, video contributions and music.
The International Liberation Celebration is framed with virtual ones Commemorative weeks from April 26th to May 20st, 2020. During this time, short videos of concentration camp survivors and contemporary witnesses, reports from liberators, statements from victim organizations, ambassadors and local commemorative initiatives are shown.
In addition to the liberation ceremony in Mauthausen, there are more than 110 commemorative events every year in places of former Mauthausen satellite camps and other places of National Socialist terror throughout Austria. The majority of these events are organized by local associations and initiatives in close cooperation with the Mauthausen Committee Austria (MKÖ). Tens of thousands of people make an impressive sign every year for “never again”.

“Mauthausen satellite warehouse app” The MKÖ also provides information, photos and videos on the history of the Mauthausen camp complex free of charge for everyone and now offers the possibility to virtually visit all the locations of the concentration camp subcamps.
