Use of thermal waste water for climate-friendly heat

How the heating of buildings is designed has a major impact on the success of the climate change - because the heating sector in Austria is responsible for around half of final energy consumption and for 40 percent of CO2 emissions, the City of Vienna press service calculates in a press release. "The CO2 and fine dust emissions from district heating are significantly lower than with other forms of heating," it also says.

The city's district heating supply is now to become even more efficient and sustainable: from 2022, the residual heat from the thermal wastewater at Therme Wien in Oberlaa will be used to generate district heating using heat pumps. “Around 1.900 households in Oberlaa can then be supplied with the climate-friendly heat. That saves about 2.600 tons of CO2 annually, ”the senders announce. Wien Energie is investing around 3 million euros in the project.
