Urgently needed: a global plastic agreement.

The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo and Nestlé have been the world's top plastic polluters for five years in a row. That's according to the Break Free From Plastic movement's latest global branded report. The results show that the private sector's voluntary commitments are not enough to tackle the plastic crisis. The movement is therefore calling for an ambitious global plastic agreement.

The results show that the private sector's voluntary commitments are not enough to tackle the plastic crisis. The movement is therefore calling for an ambitious global plastic agreement. In the face of the failure of consumer goods companies' voluntary commitments, the Break Free From Plastic movement is calling for an ambitious, legally binding global plastic deal.

Joëlle Hérin, our consumption and circular economy expert, says: “Big brands like Nestlé, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Unilever have helped create this crisis: they need to phase out single-use plastic and push for an ambitious global plastic deal. An agreement that limits the production and use of plastic is essential to tackle the plastic crisis globally."
