Update from Camila Rodriguez, coordinator of the humanitarian program in the Dominican Republic.

The social distancing and cessation of all non-essential services in the country during the Covid 19 pandemic left many people without income. They also experienced cutbacks or a total loss of their source of income in a country where 54% of the population work in the informal economy and rely on daily work to make money.

Thanks to Oxfam's supporters, more than 4.000 vulnerable families receive money transfers to meet basic needs.

We are deeply concerned about how the corona virus affects people living in conflict, disaster and poverty. People who often struggle without essential basics such as water, food and sanitation.

In many countries around the world, this pandemic is a crisis in addition to the crisis.

Oxfam's humanitarian workers and partners are working hard to stop the spread. We provide essential support such as hand washing facilities, clean water, toilets and soap in the most vulnerable communities.

Work like this has helped contain deadly outbreaks like Ebola and cholera - and they will protect people from this virus.
