The nature hotel Chesa Valisa is the first organic hotel in Vorarlberg, since 2007. As a pioneer, it was a logical step for the Kessler family to become the first climate-neutral hotel in Vorarlberg in 2019.

Even before Sieglinde and Klaus Kessler left the Gasthof and Pension Schuster, the nature hotel Chesa Valisa formed, they had dealt with the connection between ecology and economy in tourism. “Our house is proof that ecology and economy do not have to be opposites,” says Klaus Kessler. In the nature hotel, guests can experience that sustainability and a life in harmony with nature have nothing to do with sacrificing comfort and asceticism.

It stands powerfully on its generous, unspoilt ground at an altitude of 1.200 meters with a view of the Kanzelwand, the Zwölferkopf and the other two-thousand-meter peaks in the Kleinwalsertal: that Chesa Valisa. The words with their Rhaeto-Romanic origin mean "Walserhaus". Tradition and modernity are combined in a unique way in this four-star hotel. The 500-year-old parent company was built at a time when there were only natural raw materials - mainly wood and stone. The new building, nestling harmoniously with the main building and nature, was created according to building biology aspects in the tradition of Vorarlberg timber construction. “The guest should feel the closeness to nature and at the same time experience security under our roof,” says hotel manager Sieglinde Kessler.

The Vorarlberg timber construction is characterized by its simple style, reduced to the essentials, which ties in with old traditions. "It is not about giving the impression that it is as if. The new buildings of the nature hotel, which bring a lot of light and visibility into the hotel, impress with natural wood, natural materials and clear shapes and lines.

Sustainable through and through

Even in everyday hotel life Chesa Valisa sustainability is lived. For example, the cleaning agents are based on cleaning-effective microorganisms. Only ecological detergents are used in the in-house laundry. In the nature hotel, heating and hot water preparation work exclusively on the basis of renewable energy sources and heat recovery. In the rooms, solid wood furniture, oiled floors and a mains cut-off ensure a relaxing and healthy indoor climate. In addition, the rooms do not need air conditioning even on hot summer days, because the clay walls serve as perfect temperature regulators. The pool, which is filled with its own spring water, is not cleaned with chlorine as is conventional, but with ionized salt as an alternative.

The AlpinSPA

50 rooms, 2.000 m² AlpinSPA and 20.000 m² open surrounding area - the cozy atmosphere can be felt in every corner of the nature hotel. At breakfast in the winter garden you can enjoy the view over the Kleinwalsertal towards Oberstdorf; and when you come home in the early twilight after skiing or a hike, you can see the table set in the warm, cozy light from afar. If you want, you can enjoy the view of the mountain ranges shrouded in the sunset in the sauna and the year-round heated spring water pool. Afterwards there is also a view in the sauna, which is not called the “panorama sauna” for nothing; And if you want, you can let your gaze wander through nature after sweating in the relaxation room or on the wide sun balcony on the floating loungers. For Sieglinde and Klaus Kessler, it was a logical and logical step to convert the kitchen of their hotel to 2007 percent organic in 100. Conscious nutrition has been one of the cornerstones of their philosophy right from the start. Even before the organic changeover, the "green toque" cuisine was used in the nature hotel, which relies on natural, regional and preferably organic foods. In the kitchen of the nature hotel Chesa Valisa everything is freshly prepared; They even grind the flour themselves to bake fresh bread almost every day. Convenience products and microwaves are not used. And if you have allergies and food intolerances, you will not encounter uncomprehending glances in the nature hotel. Chef Bernhard Schneider personally takes care of putting together an appropriate menu for special requests. When the scent of fair trade organic coffee is in the dining room in the morning, guests can expect a large breakfast buffet based on good Austrian hospitality tradition - from fresh grain porridge to vegetables and fruit stations to a separate Ayurveda corner with warm compotes, everything can be found there. At lunchtime there is a light snack with a salad and raw food buffet, soups and small warm dishes as well as strudel and cakes from the in-house cake fairy. Regional, Austrian, Mediterranean and European, this is how Sieglinde Kessler describes the cuisine of the evening 5-course menu with a choice; Not to forget the Ayurvedic dishes, which are an integral part of the menu alongside the vegetarian and vegan dishes. All day long, guests can help themselves at the tea bar and fruit basket and drink as much fresh spring water as they want. "All healthy things are of course included in our Vital Board", says Sieglinde Kessler. When the senior boss is not working in her office, she personally takes care of the hotel's own garden, where flowers and herbs grow and thrive like in a traditional farm garden, and is responsible for the tasteful ambience. It is naturally grown here in the biodynamic style with its own fertilizer and recycling of the leftovers.
