Times Square New Years Eve has recognized climate change

CONTRIBUTION IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, co-organizers of Times Square New Year's Eve, honored science teachers and their students in response to global concerns about climate change in 2019, particularly the role of youth in promoting and creating solutions to the climate crisis.

This year's special guests were two award-winning New York high school teachers and four of their students, all from New York public schools. They represent all people around the world who use science and youth to address the most discussed topic of 2019. They pushed the button that started the famous 60-second ball throw and countdown to the new year.

"On New Year's Eve, we look back and reflect on the prevailing themes of the past year and seek hope and inspiration as we look ahead," said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance. One would have to get one's head stuck in the sand in order not to be “worried by all the environmental disasters of 2019, and one would also have to have a soul made of Styrofoam not to be moved by the passion of young people who are calling for us to do it better and listen to science to solve the problem.
