The Salonga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the few treasure troves of biodiversity on our planet. Salonga, with its countless animals and plants, is one of the last intact tropical rainforests, according to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
Only a few researchers or visitors find their way into this biodiversity laboratory. The journey to Salonga was always long and often dangerous. And today it is still arduous. It takes more than a day to get to the park by plane or boat from the capital Kinshasa.
