Surveys: People around the world are calling for more climate protection

There is hope when it comes to the climate crisis. Like the German magazine "Spiegel”Reports, almost two thirds of 1,2 million respondents worldwide see the world as“ facing a climate emergency ”. This was a survey by the UN development program UNDP and the University of Oxford (England). “In this largest survey to date by the United Nations, people of different age groups from 50 countries, in which more than half of the world's population lives, were asked,” continues Der Spiegel. According to the study, people particularly appreciate the ItalyGreat Britain and Japan the effects of climate change as threatening. 80 percent of those surveyed there expressed concern about more severe heat waves, droughts, torrential rain and storms. FranceGermanySouth Africa and Canada were close behind in the survey.

The Bertelsmann Foundation in Germany comes to similar conclusions: Here one can feel it Survey According to “more than half of the respondents (55%) the consequences of climate change already today in their city or municipality”. 67% “see climate change as a threat” and around 1/3 (29%) are of the opinion “that climate change could result in inequalities within the population”. The citizens surveyed would like politics to provide more climate protection. 46% stated that their city or municipality gave climate protection “too little importance”.

Climate protection can be chosen: climateists run for elections

In the two German federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate are running for the first time this year Climateists. You want to implement “consistent climate protection measures” in politics and business. In almost all of them Countries and very many cities and municipalities such climateists have formed.

From knowledge to action

So when it comes to climate protection (at least when it comes to thinking and knowing ;-)) people are much further ahead than politics. Unfortunately, too many do not yet behave according to the findings. We still drive too many routes by car. The Share of fuel-guzzling SUVs in new registrations of cars continues to rise. Even the climate damaging one Meat consumption goes back slowly. So it's no wonder that the mountains of rubbish continue to grow and that the amount of greenhouse gas emissions has continued to rise in recent years (except for the Corona year 2020). You can find ideas for solutions and steps on how we get from knowledge to action at, for example Reef reporters.
