Study: More than 700 Kcal per capita end up in the trash every day

A new study concludes that global food waste may be twice as much as previously thought. In addition, the influence on the extent of food waste in relation to the wealth of the population was examined.

According to the authors of the study, the data suggest that consumer food waste increases above a threshold of the available budget for daily expenses of around 6,70 US dollars per day per capita and increases with increasing prosperity.

According to a study, 2011 kilocalories (Kcal) of food waste per day and head were produced in 727 (2005: 526 Kcal / day). This corresponds to a third of the average daily energy intake of an adult. The graph shows the food waste in Kcal / day / person in 2011 in an international comparison. More information is available here is available for storage, management and analysis.
