Stakeholders misunderstand circular economy

A study of the Circular Economy Forum Austria shows that Austrian representatives from different economic sectors, as well as politics, education and society often still have a wrong conception of the circular economy.

83% of the respondents said that the circular economy will play a role for their organization and 88% are convinced that their organization can make a contribution to the circular economy. BUT: almost half, 49%, understand the circular economy to be classic recycling, 28% said it was waste management.

Study director Karin Huber-Heim said in a broadcast: “This is a still widespread narrative, which mainly refers to the end of life of products and materials. As a result, innovation and market opportunities for Austrian companies with regard to the development of recyclable products, materials and designs as well as resource-saving business models or digital solutions for cycles are neglected.
