Social economy clothing collection must now be strengthened

In 2019, the textile collectors in the RepaNet network recycled 1.600 t of clothing in Germany. In view of the future changed political framework conditions, RepaNet is now calling for the political protection of its charitable and ecological performance.

The data and facts of the RepaNet market survey 2019 - by the way in the RepaThek can be read - show the performance of the social economy re-use companies in Austria, supplemented with a nationwide estimate of the entire re-use sector. Around 43% of the more than 262.000 tons of CO2 equivalents saved through re-use can therefore be attributed to the activities of RepaNet members. In the textile sector, around 1.600 tons of clothing are recycled domestically by the RepaNet network. In order to ensure this performance, however, politicians must now set the necessary course.

During the Press release "Social economy clothing collection must now be strengthened" RepaNet points out the need to recognize the role of the socio-economic textile collectors and to enable a nationwide long-term safeguarding of the circular economy jobs in their companies. In addition to labor market policy funding, funding from funds from the environmental departments is desirable. This will be particularly relevant in view of the forthcoming Europe-wide compulsory nationwide textile collection from 2025, in which, in order to avoid a collapse of the existing system, a differentiation into two collection qualities - re-use and recycling - should be considered.
