(Washington, DC, February 10, 2021) - Group armed killings of human rights defenders are widespread across Colombia, but the government is keen to take steps to prevent it, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The report "Left Undefended: Killings of Right Defenders in Colombia's Remote Communities" documents the killings of human rights defenders in the country over the past five years, as well as serious shortcomings in government efforts to prevent them, protect defenders and hold them accountable . Over 2016 human rights defenders have been killed in Colombia since 400, according to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
