Recycling mistakes you didn't know you were making, Part 3: Paper

CONTRIBUTION IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE

Paper seems the easiest to recycle, doesn't it? But what about post-its, wrapping paper, greasy pizza boxes, etc.? Let us take a look at the details.

In general, paper and cardboard are largely recycled in the UK, but sometimes collected separately. You can find out more about your region Here.

Wrapping paper:

A lot of used wrapping paper can no longer be recycled because it is taped everywhere. Glossy / metallized wrapping paper is also a problem. “The“ scrunch test ”shows you whether you can recycle it: crumple a piece of wrapping paper in your hand. If it unfolds when you open your hand, it cannot be recycled. Paper that remains wrinkled in a ball can be safely recycled, ”recommends Recycle Now.

Colored paper / cardboard:

Paper stained with food, grease, paint, or dirt cannot be recycled like baking paper. But: Cardboard pizza boxes can be recycled, even if they are stained or greasy, as long as they are empty.
