Pangolins - They fight for #survival 🆘
Are #pangolins|e finally getting help? At the #CITESCoP19 there was a hopeful advance: the national trade in animals should now also be banned where it fuels illegal trade. This is urgently needed, because pangolins are considered the most trafficked mammals in the world! 😱
More than 1,1 million of them were trafficked between 2000 and 2016 alone. In fact, it's completely forbidden. But there are always reports of #pangolin scales found at airports weighing tons. They also often come to Asia from Africa. Each find means thousands, even tens of thousands of dead pangolins.
The #scales of the animals, which look like pine cones, are sold as a miracle cure and their meat is also considered a delicacy.
